Session #1 : Why IBM FlashSystem

Wednesday May 20th 2020 – 2PM NZ Time

Join us for a discussion of the unique business benefits that IBM can provide with its award winning FlashSystem product family. The discussion will be led by IBM subject matter experts Abilio Oliveira and Barry Whyte.

This session will start from basics, beginning with how IBM has carefully crafted its FlashSystems that build on over 30 years of industry leading storage technologies into a modern, high performance, feature rich and enterprise class storage solution.

We will also discuss how to pick the right FlashSystem for your business needs, from the entry level 5000 up to the ultra scalable 9200R and will conclude with a discussion of some blueprints for deployment. There will also be an opportunity for a short Q&A discussion.

From traditional workloads to modern hybrid multi-cloud solutions, come and see how IBM has the right FlashSystem just for you.

Session #2 : Why IBM POWER Systems?

Wednesday May 27th 2020 – 4PM NZ Time

Join us for a discussion of the business benefits that IBM can provide with its Power Systems product family.

The discussion will be led by IBM A/NZ Subject Matter Expert Andrew Gee.

We will go back to basics to recap how the Power Architecture and subtly different implementations put the right product from the range to the appropriate role. We’ll compare with the x86 market and show why, particularly for higher workload or performance workloads, the Power Systems platform is the right choice.

With a global adoption of Linux and open source software the IBM Power Systems should be your go-to platform for Performance and Availability.

There will also be an opportunity for a short Q&A discussion

Session #3: Boosting your SAP HANA platform with IBM POWER Systems

Wednesday 3rd June 2020 – 4PM NZ Time

Join us for a discussion of the business benefits that IBM can provide with Power Systems for SAP HANA.

The discussion will be led by IBM Subject Matter Experts Benjamin Kwan and Andrew Gee.

With SAP stating it wants to ‘own’ the application stack there is plenty of opportunity out there.

This session will recap how the Power Architecture compares with the x86 market and show why IBM Power Systems are more Flexible, Available and have better performance for SAP HANA

There will also be an opportunity for a short Q&A discussion

Session #4: Tips and Tricks Monitoring Storage Performance

Wednesday 10th June 2020 – 4PM NZ Time

Join us in this very exciting lecture on how to get the control of your infrastructure back to you. The idea is discuss real life examples of performances monitoring and how to identify, control, and address any issues.

The discussion will be led by IBM Master Inventor Barry Whyte.

IBM Spectrum Control can collect information about the performance of storage systems and switches. Key performance metrics and notifications of threshold violations that can help you measure, identify, and troubleshoot performance issues and bottlenecks in your storage.

There will also be an opportunity for a short Q&A discussion

Session #5: Your A.I needs an I.A (Infrastructure Agenda)

Wednesday 17th June 2020 – 4PM NZ Time

Join us for a discussion of the business benefits that IBM can provide with its IBM Systems product family in the world of AI.

The discussion will be led by IBM subject matter experts Ablio Oliveira and Andrew Gee.

We will briefly recap the Power Architecture and highlight its advantages over x86 – particularly for higher workload or high performance workloads. We’ll discuss the Data, Learning and Inference cycle and which platform should be used where. From the Storage point of view, we will discuss what kind of concerns that you need to have within the AI ladder.

There will also be an opportunity for a short Q&A discussion.

Session #6: IBM System Z – Why LinuxONE?

Wednesday 24th June 2020 – 4PM NZ Time

Join us for a discussion of the business benefits that IBM can provide with its IBM Systems product family in the world of AI.

The discussion will be led by IBM A/NZ Subject Matter Expert Pat Oughton.

We will briefly recap the LinuxOne Architecture and highlight its advantages over normal x86 Hypervisors – particularly for higher workload or high performance workloads.

There will also be an opportunity for a short Q&A discussion.

Session #7: Managing Exabytes of data with IBM Spectrum Storage

Wednesday July 1st 2020 – 4PM NZ Time

Did you know that more than 80% of all data that is collected by organizations is not in a standard relational database? Instead, it is trapped in unstructured documents, social media posts, machine logs, and so on.

As you can imagine, this can bring significant challenges to manage this deluge of unstructured data, so without the right tools and some expertise, you will be creating something that some might know as “Enterprise amnesia”.

Abilio Oliveira, SME at IBM, will crack this code for us. Join us in this discussion.

Session 8: Backing up your Applications as Easy as Click, Click, Click

Wednesday July 8th 2020 – 4PM NZ Time

Over the years, data protection has evolved immensely. In the earliest days, data protection was simply a term to describe backups and restores. In the event of data loss, a company would restore an earlier backup in order to recover their business operations.

Since then, data protection has evolved to include multiple capabilities and considerations, such as the ability to reuse archived data already living in backup repositories. To make this feasible, this reuse capability has to be simple enough that lines of business (LOBs) can quickly access it themselves. Instead of waiting for their IT teams to provide them with data sets and infrastructure, self-service capabilities allow LOBs to accelerate decision-making and apply data toward a variety of new use cases.

Cloud storage is among the key trends in technology today. As such, clients need to be able to backup their data using highly scalable, on-demand storage resources. Crucially, these backups need more than just the ability to target a single cloud vendor. The reality is that most clients wish to backup to multiple clouds, because they run on multiple clouds.

This session will be led by Abilio Oliveira, Subject Matter Expert at IBM.

Session 9: HyperSwap – Everything you wanted to know, but were afraid to ask.

Wednesday July 22nd 2020 – 4PM NZ Time

HyperSwap is IBM’s High Availability solution providing active active storage access to volumes shared across two physical sites.

This session will cover a basic overview of the layout and use cases for HyperSwap before delving into the details when it comes to deploying and using HA in anger.

Some networking do’s and don’ts, some common mis-conceptions dispelled and a chance to ask your questions as we bring you one last oncore session for the Back to School series.
